Advanced communications
The Advanced Communications research line  focuses on, for over fifteen years, the most significant advances in communications technologies. Since broadband networks to wireless communications through the integration of heterogeneous technologies and the communication protocols engineering are key objectives in this research.

The integration of technology with IP networks has led us to investigate technologies MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) and GMPLS (Generalized MPLS) played an important role. Although the TCP / IP networks are our main action area, the subjects of our research are the following fields: Broadband Networks and Multimedia, Advanced Communications; ATM/MPLS/IP Integration Technologies; Communications with Quality of Service; Traffic Engineering; Multiprotocol Networks and Multimedia; Communications Engineering Protocols, Wireless Communications; Ubiquity; Active Networks and Intelligent and Programmable Networks.

This is a line of basic research that has enabled us to collaborate on projects with other national and international research. In addition, it has established agreements with private and public organizations getting interesting innovations and applied results.

Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad (CTyS)
There are no translations available.

Cultura y Conocimiento Libre (CyCL)
There are no translations available.

  • XML
  • Servicios Web
  • Agentes
  • Comunicación entre Agentes

Information and communications security
The security of information and communications has been from the start of the professional and research activity of several members of the GÍTACA group, an special attention aim. To suffer the problems of insecurity, to experience the risks generated by it and having to overcome the weaknesses of networks, systems and users, led us to reassert the need for innovate and research in this field so essential in today's society. With such a clear motivation we can include this research line within our activities since years. This has led us to write articles in scientific journals and books, to participate in research projects, courses and participate in conferences.

A possible take off of the use of ICTs must be supported by a clear reliability of the information stored in computer systems and which is transmitted by the networks. The continued violations of the information being betray; the massive viral problems that are repeated every few months; attacks against private property and personal data, the impact that spam causes; unauthorized accesses, denials of service ; non-availability of computer systems and networks at the most inopportune moments; the absence of security policies, etc. do nothing more but act as a barrier to entry to many users and corporations who has no faith in current systems and networks. For all this, our aim is to research and provide innovations to improve the security of communications and systems, trying to spread where are the weaknesses at present and proposing, providing, innovating or developing solutions, products or basic research that will prevent to continue attacks against the information.

Due to most of our projects and researches is often present problems of security, either from the viewpoint of information or from the communications, we consider this research line as transverse to the rest of our research activities.

Free software and open source

Several members of GÍTACA group work and research in the field of free software for over ten years. In fact, free software is directly related to the majority of researches that we were ben able to carry out, as many of them have resulted in developments, prototypes, simulators and software products that have been licensed under the free software philosophy of distribution. However, we understand that our relationship and involvement with the free software movement goes beyond the distribution and use of open source as we base most of our teaching and research in the use of free tools. In addition, we collaborate on the spreading of this movement with the participation in congresses, conferences, courses, scientific journals and specialized books. Due to all this, this is a research line across the rest of research, development and technological innovation activities.

Research in this field has enabled us to participate in projects and agreements, publishing books and scientific journal, give courses and conferences, working with other research groups, to participate in congress and conferences and to distribute free software and open source products.

In the context of GÍTACA group we try all the developments that we carry out are distributed under free licenses, except those cases where collaborations or concrete agreements carried out with other entities or organizations do not permit.

Technologies of Informatics and Communications Applied to Telework and Teaching Innovation
From our research, our group seeks to respond to the needs identified in educational environments where innovation is a requirement more evident every day. The applied nature of this research line has allowed us to implement software solutions that have networks and Internet as a reference point. Thus, this line is related to priorities such as tele-education, telemedicine, telework, e-administration, e-commerce, telebank, etc.

We understand that the TicAttI line is a clear utility given the boost that has received our society with the launch and deployment of Internet nowadays. In the coming years that it will still make significant innovations in the field of networks and communications that serve to improve the quality of life of citizens. With the capability of innovation that we can carry out from the University, we try to answer for the implementation and development of services and applications that organizations and the industry itself will take place and market it.
